The Attorney-General read the second charge, viz:- that, in or about the south of Marsh,1900, Joha Chan Toag received from Li Yung 890.30 for procuring the regis- tration of Isaorial No. 37,371 of an assignment of band at Ngau Tau Kok mad for causing to be made a translation and a memorial of such sesijamant, which memorial was sworn to by his son Joseph lovlna Fong.

Fitnesa bi Yung, examined and oross-exani)– ed, said that la Xaroh,1900, he took a dead to be registerad: that the land to be registered was bis uncla's: that he acted as agent for his uncle: that he first went to Joseph Moriss Wong to talk the matter over: that Joseph Hovlan Fong said that the fee would be $30.50 for translation: that he handed over the money at the band Office të John Jhua Wong far transmission to his son Joseph Yowlan Fang: that he subsequently took a Bad. deed to be registered, bat had not yet paid the $30.50 fae, which was a gain desanded, for the reason that his uncle had not given bin the money: that the money was not owed: that the soa had been fixed by Joseph Moxlas fong. The Attorney-General read the third charge, viz?- that in or about the mouth of December,1899, Joha Chun Wong teceived from Let A Shang a sum of 380 for procuring the registration of fanorials Nos. 38,589 and 98,500 of assignaants of land at Poh Pang and for causing to be made translations and memorials of such assişaments, both of which sosorials vars sword to by his son Joseph Nowlan Roag.

Witness boi A 3hang, examined and oross- examined, said that he registered 2 deeds at the band Office: that he then saw John Chan long for the first time, but had previously knowɑ of him by name: that he could not now identify him: that when he came to the band Office Joha Chun Wang asked hia whether he wished to register a dead: that he had replied that be wished to register 3 deeds within 3 ar 10 days: that John Chun Tong said it could not be done so quickly and advised him to engage a lawyer: that soon after a young san case in: that be told the young man that he wished to have his deeds registared quickly: the young man said the foe would be $30 for saob dead: that he spoke in Chinese to the young sao, who was however, dressed in Bnglish clothes: that the young san made the transla- tions and settled the whole business: that the soxoy was paid
